Job Description Radford University invites applications for the position of Instructional Designer/Technical Trainer in the Division of Information Technology.  This position will plan, design and conduct instructor-led, one-on-one and online training courses for faculty, staff, and students. The training courses offered will consist of a variety of computer applications, operating systems, and learning management systems (LMS) as well as classroom technologies and pedagogical best practices. The position will be responsible for creating and maintaining supplemental how-to guides for courses offered. This position will assess the training needs for Radford University Carilion on a regular basis and develop offerings that promote the effective use of classroom and mobile technologies as well as educational and office productivity tools. This position involves working with faculty, staff and subject matter experts in a variety of settings to conduct needs assessments, identify instructional goals, analyze objectives and content needs, develop appropriate assessments, and create content to achieve defined the goals and outcomes. This position is located at Radford University Carilion in Roanoke, VA and reports to the Assistant Vice President of Information Technology.

Required Qualifications:  Considerable experience with instructional design projects, preferably in higher education, with an emphasis on design for online and alternate delivery methods. Experience in the use of a variety of instructional technologies and design methods, including one or more learning management systems. Demonstrated successful design, development, implementation and evaluation of course material with a variety of instructional products.

Demonstrated experience providing technology training and support to end users. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Experience in designing and maintaining technical documentation and how-to guides for end users. Demonstrated ability to evaluate and customize training curricula and methodologies as required achieving training success. Ability to multitask and prioritize projects in a fast paced dynamic work environment so deadlines are met. Proficiency in computer use and a variety of software applications. Experience in tracking and monitoring training effectiveness, utilizing evaluation instruments such as surveys, focus groups, and testing. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues. Proven ability to organize assignments, coordinate with others, manage priorities and resolve problems in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience with web/video conferencing tools, collaboration and documentation tools/platforms; experience with one or more content development tools. Quality Matters or OLC quality assurance program for online courses; and developing and validating learner assessments (e.g. design of evaluation instruments, summative test, and item design), particularly in machine-scored environments. Ability to work proactively on teaching and learning problems of diverse scope.

Understanding of adult learning theory, distance learning, web-based training, synchronous and asynchronous learning and best practices. Knowledge of how accessibility technologies, WCAG 2.1, and how ADA/Section 504 (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements apply to online/web-based learning. Experience providing instructor led and online workshops for Microsoft Office, Windows, Android, Apple OS X, and iOS preferred.
