Job Description

Position Summary:
The position of Communications Specialist supports the Corporate Communications (Senior Manager) in preparing and executing corporate communication activities, organizational strategic planning, customer experience strategies, and internal employee engagement initiatives and communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage, create, and publish social media content.
  • Provide consistent and timely information to employees through internal communications.
  • Manage ongoing development, maintenance, and content generation on the company intranet.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly internal newsletters.
  • Track and report corporate communication analytics.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of company emails and presentations.
  • Support Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation strategy and initiatives as needed.
  • Support CX strategies and coordination of customer obsession initiatives
  • Assist in coordination of company events and meetings.
  • Track applicable invoices and provide budget support for the marketing department as needed.

Additional Duties performed:

  • Develop messaging and content for internal and external communications, including social media campaigns, intranet content, videos, and email communications.
  • Create and maintain planning calendar for internal and external communications and events.
  • Coordinate engaging content across all social media platforms.
  • Maintain branding for internal and external communications to ensure alignment with Delta Dental of Virginia brand identity.
  • Assist in coordination and execution of communication campaigns supporting Foundation initiatives.
  • Communicate CX tools/processes to various business areas and help build CX capabilities throughout the company.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Corporate Communications (Senior Manager).


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business or related field or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Three to five years’ experience with marketing, communication, strategy, or related field in a professional or academic setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on story telling.
  • Must be detail oriented and a team player.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) is a plus.
  • Ability to research topics related to the business through a variety of sources.
  • Must be a self-starter and have a willingness to take ownership, follow through and execute.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and day-to-day variance in nature of work based on project/business needs.
  • Ability to act independently and exercise good judgment/decision making.
  • Knowledge of insurance products, insurance industry, customer service, sales, marketing, and intranet is a plus.
