Job Description Summary
Join the Office 365 at Rackspace team as a Lead User Experience Designer. Work with our Product Manager to shape the high-level product and user experience vision. Work with our Software Development Manager, Technical Product Manager, Software Development Team, and Microsoft Certified Professionals to deliver fanatical experiences for our customers. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Work closely with stakeholders to translate business goals into usable solutions
  • Determine overall design strategy and execute design deliverables consistent with Rackspace design system and brand
  • Communicate product vision with emphasis on data-driven design rationale formed by best practices, competitor analysis, user research, and prototype testing
  • Share stories of the business impact of UX work to inspire fellow members throughout the organization to develop products and processes that enhance our customers’ experience

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: 
Primary responsibility is to lead the design of the Office 365 at Rackspace Control Panel towards a fanatical experience for all Office 365 customers consistent with the Rackspace brand. 
  • This position acts as the user experience designer and user advocate, leveraging an iterative and data-driven user-centered design process to create compelling designs which balance customers’ needs with business goals and requirements. This position is responsible for all stages of design, starting with early engagement with the Product Manager to understand and shape the high-level product strategy and ending with pixel-perfect annotated design comps delivered to the software engineering team, which are a result of iterative changes driven from usability findings from a tested prototype(s).
  • Works closely with stakeholders ranging from front-line support to senior level leadership in order to translate business goals into usable solutions. Communicates design ideas using concept sketches, wireframes, and prototypes highlighting design rationale informed by best practices, competitor analysis, user research, and usability testing.
  • Leads and executes research and analysis according to strategic and tactical priorities.
  • Collaborates with the Helix design team as needed when a design challenge requires a component or interaction not currently available within the design system, assisting with necessary research, ideation, design, and testing of proposed components and interactions.
  • This position requires exceptional leadership, relationship and consensus building skills (both up and down the chain of command), and a proven ability to think strategically in a highly dynamic environment.

  • In addition to be being a driver of UX vision and an advocate for UX principles, this role will be hands-on in bringing the vision to life. 
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY: 
  • Highly creative with an understanding of web development and user interaction/interface design.
  • Advanced knowledge of design, prototyping, and collaboration tools (e.g., Sketch, Invision, Mural, JIRA).
  • Advanced creativity, interaction design, and problem solving ability.
  • Ability to communicate one's ideas through their design.
  • Proven track record and passion for compelling design.
  • Excellent presentation skills & and attention to detail.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to understand and contribute to functional requirements and translate them into design and development projects.

  • Advanced understanding of design elements used to create effective visual communications.
  • Solid working knowledge of standard web design practices.
  • Advanced understanding and experience with web development, information architecture, and user interaction/interface design.
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • BS/BA in Human-Computer Interaction, Product Design, Human Factors or other relevant field; Master’s preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in web application design, product design, interaction design or related field
  • 2+ years of experience as a lead designer
  • 2+ years of user research and usability/prototype testing
  • Ability to command a user-centered design (UCD) process to collaborate with customers and project stakeholders ranging from front-line support to senior-level leadership
  • Ability to synthesize analytics to identify experience issues and leverage additional qualitative findings to incrementally improve the customer experience
  • Advanced knowledge of design, prototyping, and collaboration tools including Sketch, Invision, Mural, and JIRA
  • Demonstrated ability to set the design vision for an Enterprise-level system
  • Online portfolio highlighting the journey from user stories to pixel-perfect mock-ups/prototype
  • Experience with Cloud software preferred
