Our clients and prospects continue to struggle with legacy approaches, team attrition, misinformation, resource constraints, bureaucracy, and other barriers to evolution. To position our clients – and ultimately Vitech – for success, we must continue to produce state-of-the-art software.
Vitech is seeking a motivated Senior Software Engineer to expand our development team. This position provides the opportunity to develop and maintain functionality for high end commercial software products using modern tools, technologies, and techniques. With corporate support, software engineers work as a team alongside quality assurance engineers to iteratively produce high quality product releases.

This position is located at our Blacksburg, Virginia corporate office in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. With the exception of any travel for professional development or corporate-level events, no travel will be required.
Our software development team is charged with ensuring that our CORETM and GENESYSTM product lines meet the exacting standards necessary to properly serve our customer base. Our software is used to develop highly technical, mission critical systems around the world – everything from military systems protecting troops, to green systems leveraging alternative energy sources, to medical equipment providing critical diagnostic information.
To thrive at Vitech, a Senior Software Engineer must:
Engage with the development team and product owners through requirements, design, implementation, and test on small to large projects;
Work within an agile development environment, leveraging methods such as test-driven development and Scrum;
Develop estimates for work products;
Comprehend, leverage, and improve upon existing software systems;
Design and implement software using Microsoft Visual Studio, C#, and .NET technologies;
Promote use of common software patterns and best practices;
Help mentor less experienced team members throughout the software lifecycle via code inspections and other peer reviews;
Actively participate in the plan-do-check-act cycle, recommending process and methodology improvements as part of a learning organization;
Maintain a willing and flexible attitude, assuming duties as required to contribute to team success.
Be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task and communicate efficiently within an enthusiastic, passionate team.
The successful Senior Software Engineer will demonstrate:
At least seven years of practical software development experience leveraging object-oriented techniques and fundamental software patterns and best practices;
At least five years of C#, Microsoft .NET, and Microsoft SQL Server experience;
Solid understanding of relational database design and transactional systems;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
A strong desire to work as part of a greater development team and larger organization to deliver needed capabilities to our clients; and
A passion for bringing quality products to market!
The following qualifications are not required but would position you for even greater success at Vitech:
A technical degree from an accredited college (computer science, engineering, or similar);
Prior experience with agile processes, test-driven development, and the Scrum methodology;
Knowledge of .NET 4.x, VB.NET, WCF, WPF, and ASP.NET;
Knowledge of Microsoft Team Foundation Server and MSBuild;
Knowledge of DevExpress software components; and
Familiarity with service-oriented architectures.
