General Role Description

Integrate, commission, and provide on-site technical support for state-of-the-art products and automation control techniques used in industrial and port container crane system projects

Role Accountabilities

  • Commission automatic crane control systems as the automation system subject matter expert
  • Design and implement system level software for automatic crane control systems and related application.
  • Design and implement external interfaces to the automatic crane control and sensor systems, especially client data systems, terminal operating systems, and OEM subsystems
  • System test software in the lab prior to installation in the field
  • Provide long term automatic crane system optimization to meet performance goals as defined in the project technical specification
  • Build and maintain client relations throughout the commissioning and extended technical support phases
  • Prepare and/or update detailed user guides and related documentation for the automatic crane control systems
  • Present technical papers and marketing presentations to key industry representatives at technical conferences and at critical client meetings
  • Evaluate and integrate sensors and other devices for the highest performance and lowest cost total solution

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering or related field or equivalent via education and/or work experience
  • 2 years of experience in industrial control systems design or commissioning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network topologies and switches
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude sufficient for design of machine control and sensor systems
  • Ability to climb and work on cranes at heights up to approximately 175 feet
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts
  • Demonstrated successful and positive personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office tools
  • Availability to travel, domestically and internationally, up to 75%, sometimes, with limited notice
 

Preferred Qualifications

5 years of crane industry process or related work experience
  • 5 years of commissioning experience
  • Product development, PLC programming, industrial or crane control system, IP video and camera, and visioning system experience
  • Experience with non-Microsoft Operating Systems and development environments, e.g., Linix, Java
  • Demonstrated project related experience with Microsoft Development Tools: Visual Studio, VC++, Visual Basic, SQL Server, .NET
  • Demonstrated engineering expertise in embedded system design and programming
  • Experience with NEC, UL, CSA, CE codes and standards
  • Experience with visual programming such as apps-layered on DirectX and/or OpenGL
  • Demonstrated success leading teams to accomplish business goals
