General Role Description
Develop and maintain a field engineering organization to meet Mid Range Plan (MRP) commitments within a set of capital and human resources on a rolling 2 year time horizon
Role Accountabilities
  • Build and lead a team of committed and capable employees to ensure successful commissioning of products and systems delivered to clients
  • Create, implement, and monitor a process for efficient resource assignments for commissioning work on projects
  • Develop, monitor and manage engineering capitalization budgets to meet business targets
  • Prepare commissioning cost estimates in support of the sales team
  • Develop, implement, and manage a process to acquire and monitor key information on project performance, such as, but not limited to, sales, costs, margin and schedules
  • Use performance data to make or suggest necessary adjustments to ensure that sales and margins targets are achieved
  • Develop, implement, and manage a process to provide project status updates to business and functional units, and clients and proactively recommend improvements
  • Develop a process to track and measure organizational operational quality and efficiency
  • Identify opportunities, initiate and lead process improvement initiatives in the organization
  • Define and implement a process to monitor skill base within the team
  • Monitor skill base within the team and report opportunities for skills improvement to immediate manager
  • Ensure skills database is accurate and current
  • Ensure team members possess the knowledge and are trained to meet current and future needs per the business unit (BU) MRP
  • Cooperate with other functional groups and other group companies to ensure projects are executed successfully
  • Establish and maintain a pool of contract engineers to meet current and future needs per the BU MRP
  • Ensure client issues are resolved, at job site if necessary.  Escalate to appropriate management as needed

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical or Computer Engineering or related field or equivalent via education and/or experience
  • 5 years of technical or technical management experience in any combination of the metals, material handling, paper, or related general industries
  • 2 years of program/project management, engineering management, or other related management experience
  • 2 years of experience specifying, designing and/or commissioning electrical and automation systems for metals, material handling, paper, or general industries
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility
  • Demonstrated success leading teams to accomplish business goals
  • Demonstrated success managing financial results to plan in a manufacturing or industrial services business
  • Experience in the review of commercial terms and conditions of large value services contracts to ensure risk to business is at acceptable levels
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts
  • Demonstrated successful and positive personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, MS Projects and an ERP business system
  • Availability to travel, domestically and internationally, approximately 20%, sometimes with limited notice

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success leading remotely located teams
  • Demonstrated success developing and managing supervisors
  • Proficiency in Oracle
