Job Title System Design Specialist - Energy Storage Systems

General Role Description
Provide technical guidance and develop technical proposals for energy storage solutions
Role Accountabilities
  • Develop technical system solutions to meet requirements for client requested applications
  • Research and assess the Company's products, performance, industry trends, and competitive position, and recommend product enhancements and new products to senior management
  • Ensure delivered systems meet performance requirements of the designed solution 
  • Prepare and communicate specifications to ensure sub-suppliers have necessary information to provide accurate cost estimates
  • Prepare documentation for clients which articulates the benefits of the Company's solution and propose competitive options applicable to the clients' individual needs 
  • Present Company technical solutions to management, employees, clients and others at technical meetings, conferences and via technical articles or professional society publications  
  • Ensure Company products are compatible with specific battery technologies by working directly with battery suppliers
  • Ensure system-level proposals include necessary and sufficient technical detail 
  • Provide guidance to optimize value and LCOE with respect to battery technology, degradation, augmentation plans, system sizing, and other relevant parameters 
  • Review brochures for technical accuracy

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering or equivalent via education and/or work experience
  • 1 year direct experience designing utility-scale energy storage systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of different types of batteries, inverters, and approaches to PV/storage coupling
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable standards for storage including NEC, NFPA, and UL
  • Demonstrated understanding of economics of storage systems including LCOE calculations
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts
  • Demonstrated successful and positive personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated presentation skills
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools as well as programming and modeling experience
  • Availability to travel domestically, approximately 20%, and internationally, approximately 10%, often with limited notice

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of science degree in electrical engineering
  • 5 years’ total technical experience in renewables or energy storage systems
  • Knowledge and experience with TMEIC power electronic products and motor families
  • Direct client-facing experience with engineering, procurement, and management
  • Experience with battery container design, including thermal management and protection systems
  • Experience with energy management and power plant control systems
  • Familiarity with competitor offerings in the energy storage space
  • Existing relationships with key component suppliers of energy storage systems
