Job Description Position Summary:
 
The Business Systems Analyst reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and user needs to create innovative ideas and solutions to solve problems, and improve systems and processes to achieve organizational goals. The Business Systems Analyst acts as a liaison between the Business stakeholders and the Information Technology teams to define, document and review business and system requirements.
 
A Business Systems Analyst performs technical and professional work under supervision of the IT Manager.  Work is performed in a team setting with multiple activity assignments in a deadline-oriented environment.  
 
Essential Functions:
  • Lead requirements analysis and verification, ensuring that requirement statements are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensive, traceable, feasible, unambiguous, and verifiable and conform to standards of the organization.
  • Elicit requirements using various techniques to include interviews, document analysis, workshops, storyboards, surveys, business process analysis, use cases or user stories and workflow analysis.
  • Decompose high-level business and user requirements into functional requirements, specified in an appropriate level of detail utilizing standard templates.
  • Work with the technical team to define the functional and non-functional requirements to enable the project team to provide accurate estimates for project activities.
  • Write requirements specifications according to standard templates and with sufficient detail as to be a series of testable use cases and/or test cases, including acceptance criteria.
  • Create project documentation including Business and Functional Requirements, meeting agendas, use-cases, testing scenarios, WBS, System Solutions Design Document, and Traceability Matrix.
  • Create alternative views of requirements such as visual analysis models (diagrams), prototypes, or simulations, where appropriate.
  • Assist systems developers and quality assurance analysts to understand and validate requirements throughout the software development lifecycle.  Supports systems implementation, testing, training and documentation, as required.
  • Participate in peer reviews of requirements documents.
  • Participate in peer reviews of work products derived from requirements specifications to ensure that the requirements were interpreted correctly.
  • Manage the creation and use of requirements trace information.
  • Identify ways to assist product management in product planning through research, requirements development and analysis.
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs.
  • Create and perform training for new and enhanced end-user applications and methodologies.
  • Identify issues and recommend improvements to business processes, delivery methodologies as well as functional architectures, system capabilities, and interfaces.
  • Effectively communicate status, changes and issues to the relevant parties and stakeholders.
  • Support project management duties and oversight for small to large sized projects using various methodologies including, but not limited to, waterfall, iterative, and Agile.
  • Provide post-implementation support for Applications and processes.
  • Perform production support and other duties as needed.
 
Qualifications/Education/Experience:
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in a related field (Computer Science, Business Administration or relevant field) and 0-2 years’ relevant experience in related field(s) or in lieu of a degree, 3+ years’ relevant experience will be considered. 
  • 1-2 Years’ experience in the healthcare and/or insurance industry is preferred.
  • Business domain knowledge.
  • Reporting/BI analysis (preferred)
  • EDI analysis (preferred)
  • Understanding of requirements elicitation, analysis, specification, validation and management practices and the ability to apply them.
  • Knowledge and application of various requirement methodologies: use case, UML diagrams, iterative methodologies, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle and Project Management methodologies.
  • Ability to apply the principles and practices of systems analysis and design.
  • Ability to work with technical system configuration and implementation of business rules, workflows, and system configuration as required.
  • Ability to work with technical personnel to develop data modeling, business process modeling and user interface design.
  • Experience in research and analysis of data, market need and customer issues.
  • Experience in the development of small to large custom applications, participating in every phase of the System Development Life Cycle and demonstrated experience in identifying and recommending solutions and development of technical specification documentation.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Innovative problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to write database queries and work hands on with database, spreadsheet, and other data storage units for analysis and verification.
  • Work under the supervision of the Team Lead and/or Senior Business Analyst.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic team environment.
  • Flexible and able to adapt as part of a dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized and flexible/adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Proficient to Advanced in use of the MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge/use of system methodologies/tools such as BPM, Business Rules Management Systems, Gherkin and JIRA.
  • Demonstrated experience leading people and getting results through others.  
  • Ability to think and plan strategically for organizational success.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
