General Role Description
Develop and maintain an engineering department capable of meeting Business Unit Mid-Range Plan commitments within a set of capital and human resources over a rolling 1-2 year period
Role Accountabilities
Build and lead a team of committed and capable employees to ensure successful engineering of products and systems delivered to clients
Create, implement and monitor a process for efficient resource assignments
Organize and allocate engineering resources to projects
Develop, monitor and manage team engineering capitalization budgets to meet business targets
Provide input for the development, implementation, and management of a process to acquire and monitor key information on engineering performance, such as, but not limited to, sales, costs, margin, quality, and schedules, as requested
Use project performance data to make or suggest necessary adjustments to ensure that sales and margins on engineering projects meet business unit targets
Provide input for the development, implementation, and management of a process to provide status updates to business and functional units, and clients, and proactively recommend improvements, as requested
Provide input for the development of a process to track and measure quality and efficiency, as requested
Identify opportunities, initiate, and lead process improvement initiatives
Define and implement a process to monitor skill base within the team
Monitor skill base within the team and report opportunities for skills improvement to immediate manager
Ensure skills database is accurate and current
Ensure team members possess the necessary knowledge and skills and are trained to meet current and future needs per the business unit (BU) Mid-Range Plan (MRP)
Cooperate with other functional groups and other group companies to ensure projects are executed successfully
Establish and maintain a pool of qualified contract engineers to meet current and future needs per the BU MRP
Ensure client issues are resolved, at job site if necessary. Escalate to appropriate management as needed
Identify and report capital and human resource limitations that present a risk to BU MRP commitments
Monitor and ensure compliance to BU engineering processes
Lead engineering integration teams working with global engineering resources
Provide individual contributions necessary to meet client and business commitments

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering or related field or equivalent via education and/or work experience
2 years of design, commissioning, or system development experience in industrial control systems
3 years of experience directing the work of engineers to accomplish business goals
5 years technical leadership or technical management experience in any combination of the metals, material handling, paper, or related general industries
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of industrial computer equipment, programming languages, tools, architectures, and design concepts
Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility
Demonstrated success managing financial results to plan in a manufacturing or industrial services business
Demonstrated experience in the review of commercial terms and technical requirements of contract documents to ensure that project requirements are met and that identified risks to the business are managed effectively.
Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts
Demonstrated successful and positive personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills
Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility
Proficiency in Word and Excel
Availability to travel, domestically and internationally, approximately 15%, sometimes with limited notice
Preferred Qualifications
5 years’ crane or metals industry process or related work experience
5 years’ commissioning experience
Demonstrated success leading local and remote teams to accomplish business goals
Proficiency with project scheduling tools and ERP system
