Job Description

This position is part of Distance Learning Classroom Support group within Technology-Enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS) division of Virginia Tech’s IT department. This group provides first level technical and operational support for the Technology-enhanced classrooms and virtual classrooms used for distance learning programs. This group Diagnoses and facilitated or resolved connection failures, audio/video failures, and other problems related to equipment, software or network malfunction in an originating or receiving classroom location. The distance learning technician will regularly collaborate with students, faculty and other groups within TLOS to facilitate the use of Distance Learning at Virginia Tech

Required Qualifications

- Possess knowledge of and demonstrate the use of a distance learning technologies such as Interactive Video Conferencing, Zoom, Teams or Go to Meeting
- Possess knowledge of and demonstrate computer competency skills such as adjusting display resolution, loading a program, searching for a file, entering a URL address, setting and saving bookmarks, loading and displaying a PowerPoint presentation
- Experience identifying different types of cables and connections used with computers, video and audio and demonstrate the skill to identify the following cables and connectors HDMI, DVI, Display Port, RJ45, VGA, USB 2.0, 3.0 and Types A, B and C, RCA
- Documented experience working independently and with teams, under pressure, and meeting firm deadlines
- Documented experience in a customer service role

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Education with emphasis on instructional technology, distance learning, or the equivalent in experience
- Experience using Smart Boards, computer Whiteboards, Crestron AV controls, and/or document cameras
- Experience using Windows and/or Apple OS
- Experience with audio mixing boards or software as well as effects, compressors, limiters and EQ
- Previous experience researching and resolving basic to complex distance learning technologies and computer technical issues
- Valid driver's license
