Position Summary

The Senior Director of Strategy/Innovation and Business Development will drive enterprise-wide strategic planning and innovation initiatives to position Delta Dental of Virginia for long-term success. This role will lead cross-functional efforts to identify growth opportunities, evaluate emerging trends, and foster a culture of innovation across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities through proactive prospecting, networking, and relationship building.
  • Own and manage the business development pipeline, ensuring accurate forecasting and timely progression of opportunities.
  • Proactively research and benchmark industry best practices, regulatory developments, and innovations across dental/health insurance, finance, and related sectors to identify opportunities for improvement and drive external thought leadership.
  • Maintain an outward-facing perspective, continuously seeking insights and solutions beyond internal resources and networks.
  • Leverage external expertise and market intelligence to inform strategy, foster innovation, and ensure the organization remains at the forefront of industry trends.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to explore new business models, technologies, and customer experiences.
  • Support strategic planning cycles, board presentations, and executive decision-making.
  • Develop and closely manage strategic relationships with partners to maximize and leverage revenue opportunities.
  • Work with staff throughout the organization to develop and implement diversified business strategies that support the long term growth targets.
  • Screen potential partners and acquisition targets, support negotiations and contract development.
  • Partner with Finance to assess the financials of potential business development activities, potential alliances, and investments and drive the development of business cases.
  • Make presentations to the board of directors as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Strategy, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in strategic planning, innovation, or corporate development.
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, or technology sectors preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive change.
