The City of Roanoke is seeking an IT Manager to oversee and direct the day-to-day activities of Information Technology services areas. The successful applicant will provide analysis, planning, and technical leadership of complex information technology initiatives; implement strategies for IT operations, ensure efficient working of all IT staff and ensures compliance to all deadlines and service level agreements; and provide budget input and serves as a member of the IT management team. Managers in this position specialize in service areas such as project implementation, application systems, development and integration, planning and strategy, network and radio, and datacenter. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in information technology or closely related field; five to ten years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the specified information technology service area; at least two years of lead or supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Networking, Endpoints and Radio
 Working title:  Network Manager
 Responsible for implementation, configuration and management of all networks, VoIP, and endpoint devices to meet the City of Roanoke's current and future requirements. Responsible for operations management of the regional radio system infrastructure, including oversight of the City’s Radio Shop.
  
 
SUMMARY
 
 Performs difficult technical and administrative duties in overseeing a technology team by performing the following duties.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 
 Manages technology service area including personnel (performance evaluations, disciplinary action, hiring, work assignments and schedules), goals and priorities, etc.
 
 Develops and provides tactical and operational plans for section in alignment with the overall IT strategy
 
 Establishes operating service levels and ensures they are met and quality service is delivered
 
 Provides technical leadership and serves as subject matter expert on a variety of project and operational activities requiring expertise in specific technical service area
 
 Provides technical guidance and coordinates the training and development of subordinate personnel
 
 Maintains knowledge of current technology trends and developments in the industry relevant to service area
 
 Reports performance metrics, progress, problems and the need for changes
 
 Ensures that all work and documentation meet the standards of the department
 
 Anticipates future technology needs and proactively identifies solutions
 
 Coordinates technology activities among departments and outside agencies
 
 Prepares and maintains software and hardware standards, guidelines, policy and procedure recommendations
 
 Collaborates on IT contracts providing strategy recommendations
 
 Coordinates and supports development and management of division and/or project budgets
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 Supervises approximately 2-8 assigned technical staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
