Position Summary:
The Quality & Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring product excellence and process efficiency across MELD’s advanced manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for driving continuous improvement, developing robust manufacturing processes, and maintaining strict quality standards for MELD’s unique solid-state deposition technology.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in manufacturing engineering with a deep understanding of quality systems, process control, and root cause analysis.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Develop, optimize, and document manufacturing processes for MELD® solid-state metal deposition systems
- Design and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve repeatability
- Support new product introduction (NPI) activities, including process validation and qualification
- Evaluate and select tooling, fixtures, and equipment for efficient production
- Collaborate with R&D, production, and engineering teams to transition new technologies into manufacturing
- Quality Engineering
- Ensure compliance with quality standards such as ISO 9001 and applicable industry/customer requirements
- Develop and maintain quality documentation including control plans, drawings, work instructions, and inspection procedures
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) initiatives
- Analyze production data to identify trends, defects, and areas for improvement
- Support internal and external audits and maintain quality system integrity
- Process Control & Continuous Improvement
- Implement statistical process control (SPC) and data-driven decision-making tools
- Drive Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives across operations
- Lead cross-functional teams in problem-solving and continuous improvement projects
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed
- Customer and Supplier Quality
- Support customer requirements, including technical reviews, qualification, and issue resolution
- Collaborate with suppliers to improve incoming material quality and performance
- Participate in failure investigations and customer issue resolution
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing and/or quality engineering in a complex machinery production environment
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, additive manufacturing, etc.)
- Experience with quality systems (ISO 9001 or equivalent)
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher)
- Proficiency in root cause analysis tools
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
